Texas Casinos and Gambling
Texas Casinos & Gambling :: Texas Casinos :: Texas Pari-mutuel
Casino gambling, like everything else in Texas, is huge. Let's start with the Texas Treasure Cruise. The Texas Treasure I luxury cruise casino is docked at Port Aransas, about 20 miles east of Corpus Christi. It carries 1224 passengers, and weighs 9337 tons. It contains three restaurants, and offers day cruises, as well as night cruises.
On board the Texas Treasure there are 750 flashing, whirring, bell-ringing slot machines. There are also 25 game tables that feature nearly every kind of table game available. Do you like black jack? The Blackjack tables in Texas accept bets up to 1,000 dollars. Alternatively, there's also a dog track in Corpus Christi where you can try your luck either before boarding, or after departing the cruise. Conversely, you might be looking for places to dine while visiting Texas casinos. You can take your choice of three restaurants.
The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino is another monster industry. It is, by the way, the only casino in the state of Texas with state and federal approval. Just east of El Paso, and west of Houston, it rests on route 35 South, in the town of Eagle Pass. Rows of slots whirl, lights flash, and the shouts of winners and the groans of the disappointed can be heard sporadically from all around, 24 hours a day. Just think of how many people it takes to keep a thousand slots, 15 poker tables and 10 black jack tables going all of the time.
If you want to play the horses there's a nice track just outside of Dallas called the Lone Star at Grand Prairie. The Lone Star features quarter horse and thoroughbred racing and it is open daily. Further, there are also more dog tracks. The dog track at La Marque is open Tuesday through Sunday, and also features a Sports Book. General admission is $1.00, and Clubhouse admission is $4.00. There are two dining facilities and, of course, bingo is available everywhere.
When you tire of gambling, why not see some other interesting sites in Texas. How about the strange lights of Marfa? The lights of Marfa appear nightly out of nowhere, and dart, flip and dance across the vast plains. However, no one knows where they come from, or what the lights of Marfa are. Nevertheless, in seeing the lights of Marfa, it will give you an opportunity to take some great photos. Alternatively, if the lights of Marfa do not interest you, there's the Alamo at San Antonio, the southwest?s Mexican version of Custer's Last Stand and the site where Davy Crockett lost his life. Or, if you visit Texas during football season, just go watch the Dallas Cowboys play a game of football.
Legislatively, not much is happening pertaining to gambling in Texas. There was a bill before the House to legalize slots at horseracing tracks, but a lone vote ended the action. Conversely, despite the low legislative action in Texas, there is a lot going on in Texas all of the time! In other words, there is more for you to do than you can do in one trip, or in several visits!
