South Dakota Gambling: Casinos, Poker, Pari-mutuel

South Dakota Casinos and Gambling

South Dakota Casinos - South Dakota Gambling - South Dakota Pari-mutuel

If you are traveling to South Dakota and want to gamble, you will find that gambling and casinos are legal in the city of Deadwood and on Native American Reservations. One thing to note about gambling in South Dakota is that their laws only allow maximum bets of up to $100 for games like Blackjack, Poker, Let it Ride, and Three-card poker. This enables the gambling to stay fun!

Larger casinos in South Dakota are open 24 hours but most are open at regular times from 8 a.m. - 12 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m. - 2 a.m. on the weekends. A scheduled shuttle service is even provided, at 50 cents per ride, to all of the casinos. The shuttles operate from 8 a.m. until midnight weekdays and 7 a.m. - 3 a.m. on weekends and in the summer months; the hours are extended until 1:30 a.m.

For gamblers who prefer a smaller, cozier setting, try heading down to the local bars and taverns. Inside, you may find up to 10 video lottery terminals offering games such as poker, keno, blackjack, and bingo. These video lottery terminals accept cash but do not pay out in cash. Instead, you will receive a receipt, which you can redeem at a cashier. Keep in mind that you won?t find yourself hitting the jackpot here, as the maximum payout allowed is only $1,000.

If you are a tourist in Deadwood, you probably already know that Deadwood is famous for being the home of Wild Bill Hickok. Wild Bill was shot to death while playing cards in the No. 10 Saloon. The hand he held at the time, a pair of black aces and black eights, is now commonly referred to as a ?dead man?s hand?. You can even pay Wild Bill a visit at the local cemetery.

All of the downtown buildings in Deadwood have the same architecture exhibited in the 1880s. The old No. 10 Saloon still operates and you can gamble in the same spot where Wild Bill was shot, just be sure your back is not to the door. Another famous casino that you can find in Deadwood is the Midnight Star, owned by Kevin Costner and his brother, Dan.

South Dakota also has nine Native American casinos in the area, if you?re looking for an Indian experience. Native American casinos offer slot machines and video poker for their guests. Other games that are also available include Blackjack, Let it Ride, Three-card Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Poker, and Bingo.

If you are planning to bring children along with you on your gambling trip, you might be glad to find that in South Dakota, most casinos allow children to enter the gambling area, and even sit next to their parents until 8 p.m. Other than that, the minimum age for gambling is 21-years-old and 18-years-old for Bingo.
