North Dakota Casinos :: North Dakota Indian Casinos
North Dakota?s gambling legislation began in 1977. It was during this time when bingo and raffle draws were legalized as a way for the state to increase revenue sources. In the years that followed, other games of chance were added to the list of legitimate gambling activities in the state. By the year 1980, Indian tribes were granted license to operate gaming facilities, and in 1992 the first tribal gaming casino was opened to the public. Several others followed in the year 1993. To date, North Dakota has 36 gaming and recreation centers with full-scale tribal casinos, charity blackjack, sports pools on professional sports events, horse race tracks and bingo halls.
The state lottery however, began operating in North Dakota only in the year 2002.
North Dakota Gambling Laws
Gambling has become extremely popular in North Dakota, and it is not unusual to a variety of gambling activities all around the state.
Owing to this, the state?s gaming commission has provided a number of rules that are strictly enforced.
Among these are:
1. The prohibition of any one under age of 21 to play pull tabs, sports pools and poker, among other things
2. The restriction of anyone under 18 years of age from playing bingo, unless accompanied by an adult
3. The total amount wagered by a player must not exceed twenty-five dollars per individual hand, game, or event. (Five Hundred Dollars for lottery).
Of course, any establishment wanting to operate in any gambling activity must be required by North Dakota laws, to have a license. They should particularly be a non-profit organization, a tribal casino or a franchise-holder of the state run lottery.
Internet Poker and Gambling in North Dakota
The one thing that is outlawed in this state is internet gambling, regardless of the amount wagered. There is, however, a federal ban outlawing internet gambling all over America.
But North Dakota is being eyed as the Internet Poker Headquarters for the United States, despite opposition from its residents. There is in fact a pending petition in Capitol Hill, with an ongoing debate on the validity of legalized internet gaming, particularly internet poker, which is causing quite a stir in the Senate. Poker?s popularity across states has made online gambling a lucrative activity.
State representatives say that legalizing Internet poker could bring money through taxes and fees. They are currently 30-40 unlicensed poker sites accessible to locals of North Dakota.
